Flower Carpet TM White
"Flower Carpet TM White may be the best white garden rose ever." A strong statement, but one which is often heard from both garden professionals and enthusiasts alike. With masses of endless blooms and intense white flowers that don't become marked or discoloured by rain, it is easy to see why people are raving about Flower Carpet TM White. More compact in size than its pink relative, Flower Carpet TM White grows in a semicircular-shaped fashion. It is earlier to bloom than other Flower Carpet TM roses, blooms consistently throughout the season, and is nicely fragrant.
Flowers and Colour
Creamy white buds are continually forming from early spring onwards. These buds quickly unfurl, as though they are anxious to boast their glorious centres of rich yellow stamens, surrounded by camellia-like, soft, white petals. The semi-double flowers are 5 to 6.5 cm (2 - 2.5") in diameter, and fall cleanly from the bush, maintaining a fresh appearance.
Foliage
These compact rose bushes are dressed in an abundance of dark and glossy medium-sized leaves.
Plant Size
Flower Carpet TM White plants are more compact and spherical in shape than the original pink, growing 60 to 80 cm (24 - 32") high and 90 cm (36") across.
Easy Plant Care
Watering: Keep well-watered, particularly during hot summer months.
Fertilizer: A handful of balanced rose food in early spring, and again in mid-summer will ensure your rose bush produces its full potential of blooms each season. In cold climates, avoid feeding roses in late summer and fall as the extra nutrients will encourage new growth and increase the chances of cold-damage over winter.
Trimming: Trim the plant back to half or a third of its size in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth. Cut out any winter dead wood.
Optimal Planting Conditions
Plant two to three roses per square metre (yard) in full sun or partial shade for ground cover. To establish boundaries in the garden, plant 60 to 90 cm (2 - 3') apart. Flower Carpet TM White roses can be planted any time during spring, summer or fall. Roses will thrive in USDA zones 5 to 11. In cold zones, protect over the first winter. In zones 6 and below, continued winter protection is advised. In areas of intense heat (for example Phoenix, AZ), protect by planting in semi-shade.
