Flower Carpet TM Red
Rich, wine-red blooms cover these spectaular roses all summer long. Flower Carpet TM Red will produce an endless display of blooms from spring until early winter once established. The red, coral and yellow varieties of Flower Carpet TM roses handle the warmest summer conditions slightly better than pink, white and appleblossom varieties.
Flowers and Colour
Small buds quickly open to reveal rich, velvety, wine-red flowers, offset with deep golden stamens in the centres. Once established, these fabulous performers will provide continuous displays of blooms in large clusters of twenty-five to thirty flowers.
Foliage
The rich, velvety, red blooms of Flower Carpet TM Red are offset perfectly by an abundance of dark, glossy-green, medium-sized leaves with burgundy borders.
Plant Size
Flower Carpet TM Red grows slightly more open and horizontally than other Flower Carpet TM varieties, growing 60 to 80 cm (24-32") high and up to 120 cm (48") wide. This horizontal growth habit makes it an exceptional ground cover rose!
Easy Plant Care
Watering: Keep your rose well-watered, particularly during hot summer months.
Fertilizer: Just give each rose a handful of balanced rose food in early spring, and again in mid-summer to ensure they produce their full potential of blooms each season. In cold climates, avoid feeding roses in late summer and fall as the extra nutrients will encourage new growth and thereby increase the chance of cold-damage over winter.
Trimming: Trim your rose bush back to 1/2 or 1/3 of its size in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth.
Optimal Planting Conditions
Plant two to three per square metre (yard) in full sun or partial shade for ground cover, or plant 60 to 80 cm (2-3') apart to establish boundaries in the garden. Flower Carpet TM roses can be planted any time during spring, summer or fall. They will thrive in USDA zones 5 to 11. Protect them from frost over the first winter in cold zones. In zones 6 and below, continued winter protection is advised. In areas of intense heat (for example Phoenix, AZ) protect by planting in semi-shade.
