Flower CarpetTM Coral
First released in 2002, Flower Carpet TM Coral has captivated eveyone who has seen it. Single long-lasting blooms of the most exquisite soft coral enchant you, slowly darkening in colour as they age. This member of the Flower Carpet TM series performs equally well in warm and cool areas. Compact and a little more upright, with a less spreading growth habit than other varieties of Flower Carpet TM, it quickly establishes itself once planted in the garden.
Flowers and Colour
Lovely single blooms start out a soft, delicate coral colour. Blooms are lighter towards the centre with antique gold stamens. As the flower ages, it intensifies in colour, becoming more rich. These stunning roses often have blooms in various shades of coral on a single plant. Like all Flower Carpet TM plants, Coral blooms in abundance, with twenty to thirty open flowers at the end of each branch. Established plants have no trouble producing over two thousand flowers throughout the season.
Foliage
Flower Carpet TM Coral produces a wealth of rich, dark, glossy, medium green foliage.
Plant Size
You can expect your Flower Carpet TM Coral rose to grow 60 to 80 cm (24-32") high and 100 cm (40") wide once established.
Easy Plant Care
Watering: Keep your rose well-watered, particularly during hot summer months.
Fertilizer: Give each of your roses a handful of balanced rose food in early spring, and again in mid-summer to ensure your plants produce the maximum number of blooms each season. In cold climates, avoid feeding roses in late summer and fall as the extra nutrients will encourage new growth, and increase the chance of cold-damage over winter.
Trimming: Trim plant back to 1/2 or 1/3 of its size in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth.
Optimal Planting Conditions
For use as a ground cover, plant two to three roses per square metre (yard) in full sun or partial shade. To use roses to establish boundaries in the garden, plant them 60 to 80 cm (2-3') apart. Flower Carpet TM roses can be planted any time during spring, summer or fall. Flower Carpet will thrive in USDA zones 5 to 11. In cold zones, protect it over the first winter. In zones 6 and below, continued winter protection is advised. In areas of intense heat (for example Phoenix, AZ) protect by planting in semi-shade.
