Flower Carpet TM Appleblossom

A sport of the popular Flower Carpet TM Pink, the Appleblossom variety has similar growth habits, and enchants us with its ever-changing shades of pastel pink. This easy-care member of the Flower Carpet TM family will produce masses of blooms - over three thousand flowers in a season on an established plant.

Flowers and Colour

Short, plump buds begin rich pink colour, then quickly open to provide a mass of soft, beautiful, semi-double pink flowers. Flowers are up to 3.5 to 5 cm (1.5 - 2") in diameter with fifteen to twenty petals each. Flower Carpet TM Appleblossom produces flower clusters 15 to 20 cm (6 - 8") across, with approximately eighteen flowers per cluster. The first blooms appear in late spring, and are produced in continual flushes right up to early winter. In summer, blooms fade quickly to near white, then, as the season cools, they once again boast their captivating, soft pink blooms.

Foliage

Flower Carpet TM Appleblossom will produce rich and glossy medium-sized leaves in abundance all season long.

Plant Size

Plants grow quickly during spring, with branches arching away from the centre of the bush. These branches provide a continuous colour extravaganza of blossoms. Flower Carpet TM Appleblossom grows 60 to 80 cm (24 - 32") in height and 100 cm (40") wide once established.

Easy Plant Care

Watering: Keep well-watered, particularly during hot summer months.

Fertilizer: A handful of balanced rose food per plant in early spring, and again in mid-summer will ensure your plants produce the maximum number of blooms each season. In cold climates, avoid feeding roses in late summer or fall, as the extra nutrients will encourage new growth and increase the chance of cold-damage over winter.

Trimming: No fancy pruning is required for these easy-care rose bushes. Just use any shears or clippers and cut your plant back to 1/2 or 1/3 in overall size in late winter or early spring.

Optimal Planting Conditions

If you want to use your roses for ground cover, plant two to three bushes per square metre (yard) in full sun or partial shade. Plant 60 to 90 cm (2-3') apart to establish boundaries in the garden. Flower Carpet roses can be planted any time during spring, summer or fall. They will thrive in USDA zones 5 to 11. In cold zones, protect them over the first winter. In zones 6 and lower, continued winter protection is advised. In areas of intense heat (for example Phoenix, AZ) protect by planting in semi-shade.
